SARASOTA — Pring Research and Dow Jones Indexes will create a new investing tool that tracks the U.S. economy's progression through business cycles. Pring Research is based in Sarasota.

The new index “will be well-suited to serve as the basis for ETFs, mutual funds, separately managed accounts and a wide variety of investment products,” says Michael Petronella, president of Dow Jones Indexes.

Put another way, fund managers will be able to license the business cycle gauge created by Pring and Dow Jones to create new funds and financial products. Pring and Dow Jones will earn revenues from licensing fees charged to those investment professionals.

Martin Pring founded his eponymous research company in 1981, and began publishing the Intermarket Review, a monthly investment report, in 1984.
