Just in time for election year, the Tiger Bay Club of Southwest Florida held its inaugural meeting earlier this month in Fort Myers with 140 charter members.

The first speaker scheduled for Nov. 10 will be Porter Goss, the former mayor of Sanibel and Lee County commissioner who became a congressman and ultimately led the Central Intelligence Agency as its director until he resigned in 2006.

While the club's goal is to encourage participation in local, state and national politics, it does not endorse candidates or causes. Similar Tiger Bay clubs exist in other cities around Florida, including Sarasota and Tampa.
