TAMPA -- Solstice Sleep Products will put some of the production facilities once used by now-defunct Spring Air Mattress Co. back to use.

Solstice Sleep leased 90,000 square feet of space within a 206,900-square-foot facility located on South Falkenburg Road in Tampa, according to a release issued by the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp. The Columbus, Ohio-based company has already hired 25 employees to facilitate mattress production, and says it may hire up to 60 additional workers over the next several months.

Spring Air Mattress Co. eliminated more than 150 jobs when the firm shut down production in May 2009. Now, some former Spring Air employees are working for Solstice Sleep.

“Not only was the former mattress factory well suited to handle our production requirements,” explains Solstice Sleep CEO Tom Szczurek, “the experienced labor pool helped us ramp up quickly and get production underway.”
