Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty will lead the National Association of Insurance Commissioners as president of the organization in 2012.

The NAIC provides oversight, peer review and coordination to insurance regulators across the country to establish standards and best practices. The chief insurance regulator from each state in the union, as well as those from the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories, make up the group's membership.

McCarty has held his position as commissioner of the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation since 2003. His public sector career began in 1988, when he served as an expert on workers' compensation issues with the Florida Department of Labor and Employment Security.
