Women business owners in Florida are an optimistic lot these days.

In fact, nearly half of the women business leaders who responded to a recent statewide survey project at least a 10% increase in 2011 revenues. Another 20% expect revenues at their company to grow 1% to 10% this year. This cheery disposition stands in contrast to the 43% of respondents who reported a revenue decline the past two years.

The Johnson A. Edosomwan Leadership Institute at the University of Miami School of Business Administration conducted the survey with the South Florida branch of the Commonwealth Institute, a businesswoman support organization.

“The results of the survey show that businesses and other organizations led by women in Florida are healthy and poised for growth,” Johnson A. Edosomwan Leadership Institute Director Arun Sharma says in a statement. “Clearly these leaders feel their organizations have turned the corner after two years of economic difficulties.”

The Leadership Institute will use the survey findings to compile a list of the top 50 women-led businesses in Florida.
