BUYER: Kompo Family Co. LLC, Sarasota

SELLER: Branch Banking & Trust Co. vs. Captiva Beach Resort Inc. and Robert and Janes Ispaso

PROPERTY: 6772 Sara Sea Circle, Siesta Key

PRICE: $1.83 million

PREVIOUS PRICE: $350,000, August 1981

PLANS, DESCRIPTION: A company led by Sarasota chiropractor Gary Kompothecras purchased the 20-room Captiva Beach Resort for $1.83 million.

The price equated to $91,580 per room.

The resort was purchased in a certificate of title as a result of a foreclosure brought by Branch Banking & Trust Co. against the hotel's former owners.

Kompothecras, owner of the prominent medical and lawyer referral service 1-800-Ask-Gary, purchased the hotel as a long-term investment, according to owner representative Vince Payne.

“He saw the property as a very good value for the money,” Payne says. “Dr. Kompothecras lives in the area and thinks very highly of the Siesta Key area.”

Payne says the ownership group plans to keep the property as a hotel. The group already introduced a reservation system that integrates directly with top travel Web sites such as Travelocity, Orbitz and Expedia. It also hopes to expand the amenities at the complex, says Payne.
