Intelligent Decisions, a $430 million IT firm based outside Washington, D.C., hopes its decision to expand to the Gulf Coast will be a smart move.

The company focuses on IT assistance, in addition to software and hardware consulting and sales, for a variety of federal government agencies and private firms. Clients include the National Security Agency, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Its newest office will be in Tampa. Mary Allison Yourchisin, a well-connected Tampa-area technology executive who has worked in the local defense-technology industry, will run the local office. Yourchisin says the company plans to capitalize on both her connections and the proximity to MacDill Air Force Base.

The company also intends to piggyback on the success it had in 2008, when it opened an office in Orlando. That division went from one to 20 employees in less than three years. “That's what we hope to mimic here,” Yourchisin tells Coffee Talk.

In addition to Orlando and its Ashburn, Va., headquarters, Intelligent Decisions has offices in Alabama, Hawaii and Maryland. It also has offices in Dubai and Korea. Yourchisin seeks to lease office space in Tampa by the end of the year.
