The Florida Cattlemen's Association filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency this week, challenging the EPA's effort to enforce nutrient criteria on Florida's fresh water bodies, the News Service of Florida reports.

The FCA is not alone in its suit: the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, and state Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam have also filed against the federal agency.

While challengers contend that the new standards violate Florida's Administrative Procedures Act, the larger issue maybe costs: while the EPA estimates the new standards will cost Florida $35 million, opponents say changes could end up costing hundreds of millions of dollars.
