Can a guy named Buckethead put more people to work than Gov. Rick Scott?

Florida's unemployed will find out May 18. That's when the “30 Day Let's Get To Work Challenge” ends.

Orlando radio host Jason Bailey, aka “Buckethead,” has questioned whether the governor can live up to his campaign promise to put 700,000 Floridians to work in seven years. So Bailey filed for and received a service mark for the phrase “Let's get to work,” Scott's slogan during the 2010 campaign.

The challenge is simple: From April 18 to May 18, if the Buckethead Show generates more jobs than Scott, then Bailey will demand the governor stop using the phrase “Let's get to work.” If Scott wins the challenge, Bailey promises to give the service mark for Scott to use at will.

Bailey's challenge is pure radio schtick on a station — WTKS-104.1 FM — that has a reputation for outrageous hijinks.

On April 27, the Buckethead Show will host a jobs fair, and the show will host “Let's Get To Work” Thursdays, where a portion of the show will allow unemployed callers to “post” their resume on air.

And Bailey has promised that if an employer calls with a job opportunity, he will immediately put the employer on the air regardless of what's happening during his four-hour, weekday show.

So is Scott willing to participate in the shock-jock's challenge? Not likely. The governor's press office hasn't had much to say about it, though his press secretary, Lane Wright, told the Orlando Weekly: “Anything that helps build jobs in Florida is a good thing.”

Prior to joining WTKS in 2009, Bailey and the Buckethead Show were broadcast on WKTB-97.9 in Tampa.
