Sarasota Memorial Health Care System appointed William Woeltjen to be its newest chief financial officer on Wednesday.

The organization's former treasurer, Woeltjen had been serving as interim CFO since July 2010, when David Verinder vacated the position to become chief operating officer.

Woeltjen has been with Sarasota Memorial since 2007. Before that, he served as corporate treasurer and corporate chief financial officer at University Community Health in Tampa, a release said.

“Bill has demonstrated a phenomenal ability to manage our bottom line, despite a challenging economic climate for health care,” said Sarasota Memorial CEO Gwen MacKenzie.

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is one of the nation's largest public health care systems. The organization was founded in 1925.
