The Sarasota School of Arts & Sciences finalized its campus overhaul plans.

The charter school, near downtown Sarasota, plans to demolish three of its buildings in the 700 block of Central Avenue. The buildings have been used for both educational and extra-curricular activities.

The school plans to build a three-story education building to replace the old ones. Hollywood-based MG3 Developer Group has been hired to oversee the project. The building will include classrooms, a band room and a cafeteria.

Demolition is expected to start later this month, followed soon after by construction. Completion is scheduled for January or February and the school will lease a nearby building to use while the project is underway.

The project is expected to cost $6.5 million. The school is using a tax-free bond to finance the work.

Once the education building is completed, the school plans to demolish an existing building to the south to create a 10,750-square-foot gymnasium.
