Venice Christian Schoo plans three-phase expansion

Venice Christian School has filed a site plan for the first of a three-phase expansion project.

The school, which is struggling to handle quickly growing enrollment, plans first to construct a two-story building east of the existing campus at 1200 Center Road. The new building will replace modulars with six additional classrooms, a cafetorium and additional administrative space. The school is working on the design with The Maddox Group and will use D.E. Murphy Constructors Inc. as its general contractor.

“This would give us the ability to teach about 500 students,” says Jerry Frimmel, principal. “It will give us additional classroom space for middle and high schools students. And it will also free up elementary space in the main building.”

Construction is on hold as the private Christian school moves forward on its capital campaign. So far it has raised a little more than $600,000 in cash and pledges, but the new buildings is estimated to cost a little more than $2 million.

Following the first building, the school is planning to develop a gym with locker rooms and concessions and, in a third phase, a media center.
