PGT Industries will relocate its door and manufacturing operations from Salisbury, N.C. to Venice. The move will bring all of the firm's manufacturing operations under one roof.

And Salisbury's pain is the Gulf Coast's gain: PGT will add 300 jobs in Venice to boost its manufacturing capabilities in Florida.

Efforts from the Sarasota County Economic Development Council played a role in CEO Rod Hershberger's decision to move the operations to Florida.

“The support we are receiving from our local EDC and Sarasota County proved critically important in our decision-making process as we look to create hundreds of new jobs locally,” he said in a release.

The consolidation effort will take place over the next 60 days, and is expected to be complete by the end of the second quarter in 2011.

PGT Industries is a publicly-traded company (symbol: PGTI) that produces impact-resistant doors and windows.
