Brian's Auto Co. buys Venice lumberyard

BUYER: Brian's Land Co. (principal: Brian McMurphy), Nokomis

SELLER: Cox Lumber Co. c/o HD Supply Inc.

PROPERTY: 100 Center Road, Venice

PRICE: $700,000

PREVIOUS PRICE: $1.24 million, February 2002

LAW FIRM ON DEED: Boone, Boone, Boone, Koda & Frank PA, Venice

PLANS, DESCRIPTION: Brian McMurphy, owner of Brian's Auto Co. of Osprey, purchased a 48,805-square-foot lumberyard on Center Road between Tamiami Trail and the U.S. 41 Venice Bypass from Cox Lumber for $700,000.

The purchase price equated to $14 per square foot. The building was built in 1978 and sits on a 3.5-acre parcel.

Jarib Rodriguez and Kimberly Rogers of CB Richard Ellis represented the seller.

“The buyer is in the used car business and was attracted to the property because of its location,” Rogers says. “Plus we're seeing under 2002 prices.”

Cox Lumber was purchased by HD Supply Lumber and Building Material in 2006, which was in turn acquired by Pro-Build Holdings in late 2008.
