Clockwork Home Services buys Albracht/K&D

Sarasota-based home services franchisor/consolidator Clockwork Home Services Inc. has acquired Albracht/K&D Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. The move expands the reach of Clockwork's home services in Colorado.

Albracht/K&D Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc., based in Loveland, Colo., had 2007 gross revenues of $2.3 million. The company will now operate as a unit of Clockwork, with the brand name One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating, and will be managed by George Donaldson, Clockwork's vice president of operations and general manager of Candlelight Service Co. in Denver, a Clockwork-owned company. Albracht/K&D's services will be integrated with Candlelight's to expand their collective customer service footprint in Denver, Loveland and other surrounding communities.

Prior management and employees will remain with the company as Clockwork employees. Additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Clockwork remains focused on identifying and acquiring profitable, well-managed home services companies that meet our strict customer service standards and business best practices," Jim Abrams, CEO of Clockwork Home Services Inc., said in a press release. "Dan Albracht purchased his first One Hour franchise in 2003. Prior to joining the franchise, he was an active member of AirTime 500, the Clockwork affinity group focused on helping heating and air conditioning independent contractors reach their high growth potential. Dan built a solid business in the Denver area which we are now pleased to welcome into the Clockwork family."

Clockwork currently operates electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning franchises within its portfolio of home services franchises.

Intertape Polymer Group

earns High Achiever Award

Bradenton- and Quebec-based tape and film manufacturer Intertape Polymer Group Inc. earned Managing Automation's High Achiever Award, the greatest honor for Supply Network Mastery at the 2008 Progressive Manufacturing Awards.

The award recognized the company's ability to successfully restructure its supply chain processes to alleviate challenges that arose as a result of rapid growth through acquisitions.

Intertape Polymer Group's new supply chain structure, supported by Logility Voyager Solution, has resulted in increased fill rates, higher forecast accuracy and reduced inventory.

The awards program recognizes manufacturers for accomplishments that use technology-driven business processes to better manage operational excellence.

Intertape Polymer Group Inc. was one of 50 manufacturers recognized as a Progressive Manufacturer and one of eight to receive a top award in a category of distinction.

Managing Automation recognized manufacturers for achieving distinction in at least one of the eight core disciplines defined by the magazine as critical to future business success - business model mastery, innovation mastery, customer mastery, supply network mastery, data & integration mastery, education and training mastery, leadership mastery and operational excellence.

Texas' SMG Technologies

buys UTEK's Carbon Capture

CSMG Technologies Inc., a Corpus Christi, Texas-based technology management company, has acquired Carbon Capture Technologies Inc., a subsidiary of Tampa's UTEK Corp., in a stock transaction.

Carbon Capture Technologies Inc. holds a worldwide exclusive license to a composition and method for using a Carbon Dioxide adsorbent. Researchers at the University of Ottawa developed recyclable CO2 adsorbents based on surface modified nanoporous silicas. The materials show a high-adsorption capacity that is both fast and reversible, allowing it to be reused quickly.

The potential uses for the technology include capturing the bulk of C02 emissions from coal-fired power plants as well as in breathing apparatuses. UTEK is an innovation services company.
