What's ahead...

March 29 - The Chamber of Southwest Florida will host a lunch with F. Philip Handy, chairman of the Florida Board of Education, at International College in Fort Myers. March 30 - The National Federation of Independent Business/Florida will host "Top 10 Ways to Keep Your Small Business Out of Court," from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. at J Ryan's on the Grill, 8389 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Speakers will include NFIB Southeast Public Policy Director Russell Palk, NFIB/Florida Assistant State Director Patrick Arrington and NFIB Legal Foundation Executive Director Karen Harned. April 10 - The Young Lawyers Division of the Sarasota County Bar Association is hosting a program on landlord/tenant relationship at the Selby Public Library, 1331 First Street, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Speakers will include attorneys who will discuss the rights of the landlord and tenant and representatives from the Sarasota County Clerk of Court, the Citizen Dispute Settlement Program and the Sheriff's Department. Topics will include oral and written leases, responsibilities and rights of the landlord/tenant, failure to meet lease obligations, non-payment of rent, evictions, deposits and/or advance rent requirements, subletting and access to premises. April 11 - The Real Estate Investment Society in Fort Myers will host a luncheon with guest speakers Johnny Limbaugh, southwest area office manager for the Florida Department of Transportation, and Dave Loveland, manager of transportation planning for Lee County. The lunch starts at 11:45 a.m. at Pelican Preserve Town Center off Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers. Admission costs $25 for members and $35 for non-members. April 28 - The Economic Development Corp. of Sarasota County will present a luncheon featuring Steve Gunderson, co-author of "The Jobs Revolution: Changing How America Works," at 11:30 a.m. at Michael's On East, 1212 East Ave. S., Sarasota. Gunderson will talk about the challenges and opportunities facing America's workforce in the emerging global economy. Cost is $65.
