Accounting

• Kerkering, Barberio & Co. PA announced that Deborah Johnson passed all four parts of the CPA exam to obtain her certification as a certified public accountant. Johnson is a tax professional for the company.

Banks

• Northern Trust Bank promoted Susan Hines as managing executive of the bank's Venice office. Hines previously worked as a wealth strategist. Northern Trust also promoted David Dettmann from vice president of lending to private banking manager. Dettmann will be responsible for the banking and lending function for Venice.

• Regions Financial Corp., headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., hired Jeffrey Freeman as senior vice president of its commercial division. Freeman will be responsible for the development and management of commercial lending and commercial services for the Southwest Florida region. He previously worked for SouthTrust Bank.

Financial

Wyman, Green & Blalock Financial Services LLC, a new financial company, hired Bradley J. Simek as financial adviser to direct the company. Simek previously served as vice president for Scudder Investments in Florida and Georgia.

Health care

• Manatee Glens named Abigail R. Kurland to its board of directors. Kurland is a former retail children's clothing stores owner, as well as the former owner/CFO of Horizon Development Corp., both based in Maryland. Kurland has been an active volunteer with Manatee Glens for three years.

Law

• Clark DeMay Fara & Froman PA hired Brett M. Sarason and M. Michele Leach-Pachinger as associates. Sarason practices in the area of construction and commercial litigation as well as employment law. Leach-Pachinger practices in the areas of workers' compensation defense and appellate law.

• The shareholders of Abel Band made attorney Jenifer S. Schembri a firm shareholder. Schembri is a member of the firm's business and corporate counseling and personal services and planning practice groups. A certified public accountant, Schembri's areas of practice include individual and business tax planning, entity formations, mergers and acquisitions and estate planning.

• Mark P. Riley Luxury Real Estate Group hired Sheryl Vieira as president of marketing and public relations. Vieira was previously the director of development for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
