BONITA SPRINGS — The owners of Chops City Grill, a steakhouse in Bonita Springs, are temporarily closing the location for a $1 million renovation project.

The temporary closure begins May 23, according to a statement, with the restaurant scheduled to open back up in the fall. The ownership group, Naples-based Culinary Concepts, says the project is “phase one of a complete remodeling program which will enhance the 20-year-old steakhouse’s elegance and sterling reputation as the premier steakhouse in Southwest Florida.”

“Chops has such a passionate, loyal fan base and we are excited to begin this first phase of enhancing both the structure and design of our classic American steakhouse,” adds Culinary Concepts Founder Skip Quillen in the release. “With the addition of Italian chandeliers, dark velvet fabric and deep-toned woods, the new decor Chops décor will be nothing less than spectacular. We take pride in being ranked as a top steakhouse in Southwest Florida. This renovation plan is in line with our company wide commitment to providing exceptional guest service and memorable dining experiences.”

The 300-seat upscale steakhouse opened in 2001 at 8200 Health Center Blvd. with both indoor and al fresco dining, specializing in-house dry-aged roasted prime rib, American Prime, Japanese and Australian wagyu strip, T-bone and rib eye steaks and fresh seafood choices matched with creative sides and original sauces. The steakhouse’s antique bar offers more than 100 whiskey selections, a 300+ bottle wine list, creative craft cocktails and non-alcoholic selections. The wine list, signature cocktails and dinner menu will be enhanced with the renovations, Quillen says.

Culinary Concepts operates five restaurants under three brands: Pazzo! Cucina Italiana, Yabba Island Grill and the Saloon; There are two Chops locations, one in Naples and the one in Bonita Springs.
