Fast-growing airline adds new route from region

FORT MYERS — Sun Country Airlines has added a new seasonal route to Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport (GPT) from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW).

Nonstop service to between GPT and RSW begins July 19, operating twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays, according to statement. The airline has also announced new service between GPT and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Austin, Texas.

Sun Country has experienced record growth over the past year and recently announced the largest network expansion in company history, the release adds. The airline first added new routes beyond its home base of Minneapolis/St. Paul in June 2018, marking a nearly 40% growth by operating 87 routes across 52 airports.

“We appreciate the expanded partnership with Sun Country Airlines and look forward to having service to these rapidly growing markets,” says GPT Executive Director Clay Williams in a statement. “Both Austin and Fort Myers are unique and exciting destinations for local residents to enjoy.”

Sun Country Airlines is a privately held company offering service across the U.S. and to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
