SEMINOLE — Superior Uniform Group Inc. announced recently it will formally change its name to Superior Group of Companies.

According to a press release, the $267 million, nearly 100-year-old company is making the change to better reflect its diverse offerings. Superior has grown significantly via acquisitions in the past five years, buying complementary companies like BAMKO, which makes branded merchandise; Tangerine Promotions, a supplier of promotional products and signage; and Public Identity, a source of collegiate-licensed products and apparel for hundreds of colleges and universities.

Its most recent acquisition, also announced last week, is Coppell, Texas-based CID Resources Inc., a provider of branded medical uniforms for which Superior paid $88.4 million.

“Our new name recognizes our rich history as ‘Superior’ and includes how diverse we’ve become as a family of companies all working toward brand enhancement,” states CEO Michael Benstock in the release. “This name change and rebrand allows us to better identify our company and represents all of our branding solutions under the Superior Group of Companies name.”

Founded in 1920 as a uniform provider of medical apparel, Superior grew into one of the country’s largest designers, manufacturers and distributors of branded uniform programs, and is now an international leader in brand-building services.
