East Manatee County-based real estate company Benderson Development, one of the largest retail landlords in the country, has acquired 28 Fred Meyer stores located throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

The acquisition adds nearly 4.5 million square feet of properties to the company’s growing portfolio, which now totals over 45 million square feet, according to a statement. The company has a 20-year relationship with Fred Meyer, a subsidiary of The Kroger Co., the release adds. University Park-based Benderson’s portfolio already includes four flagship Fred Meyer locations.
