National insurance brokerage names local leader

TAMPA — Burns & Wilcox, a Detroit-based insurance wholesale broker and underwriting manager, has promoted John Heaner to associate managing director of its Tampa office.

According to a press release, Heaner — who joined the firm five years ago — previously served as a commercial insurance underwriting manager. In his new role, he will oversee and manage day-to-day operations and team growth.

“John has been a driving force for the growing Tampa office and continues to build its robust Commercial Insurance business,” Burns & Wilcox Florida Vice President Rebecca Roberts states in the release. “Burns & Wilcox has operated in Florida for more than 30 years and with his support, the Tampa office has experienced 15% organic growth in 2019.”

Burns & Wilcox, a subsidiary of H.W. Kaufman Group, handles commercial and professional liability, property, marine and personal insurance. H.W. Kaufman Group has 60 offices across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom and employs more than 2,000 people.
